De Martindale beschrijft onderstaande over zinkoxide en zinkperoxide: Zinkoxide: “Zinc oxide is mildly astringent and is used topically as a soothing
and protective application in eczema and slight excoriations, in
wounds, and for haemorrhoids. It is also used with coal tar or ichthammol in the treatment of eczema. Zinc oxide reflects ultraviolet radiation and is used as a physical sunscreen”
Zinkperoxide: “The action of zinc peroxide is similar to that of hydrogen peroxide . Applied locally it has been used for disinfecting and deodorising burns, wounds, and various ulcers and lesions”
Uit deze informatie kan worden afgeleid dat zinkoxide en zinkperoxide een ander gebruik hebben. Er wordt dus niet aangeraden om zinkperoxide te substitueren naar zinkoxide.
